The ICT Research Center (CITIC) of the University of A Coruña hosted the fourth edition of the XoveTIC Congress on Thursday, October 7 and Friday, October 8, 2021.

The conference is aimed at junior researchers to present their papers in the field of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). The objective of XoveTIC is to build a meeting space for scientific debate and contribute to the training of new researchers.

A total of 62 papers were presented, and two plenary conferences were held, one by Ana Freire of the Technology Area at UPF Barcelona School of Management, and the other by Rui Carlos Oliveira, a member of the INESC TEC Directors’ Advisory Committee in Porto and professor at the University of Minho.

Five prizes of €300 each were awarded to the oral presentations that received the highest ratings from the Scientific Committee, based on their quality, excellence, and originality.

The prize funded by the Aldaba-WIB Chair was awarded by Mariano Cabrero Canosa, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of A Coruña, to Aida Vidal Balea for her work "Collaborative Digital Twin: a Novel Open-Source Augmented Reality Solution for Training and Maintenance Processes in the Shipyard of the Future," co-authored by Óscar Blanco Novoa, Paula Fraga Lamas, Miguel Vilar Montesinos, and Tiago M. Fernández Caramés.

About the Aldaba-WIB Chair

The ALDABA WIB Chair: Women, ICT & Business was established in September 2019 by ALDABA, the University of A Coruña, and the University of Vigo, with the aim of fostering and enriching the progress of ICT: on the one hand, by promoting increased participation of women in its development; and on the other, by establishing two-way channels of collaboration between academia and industry.

One of the strategic lines that the Chair encompasses is to contribute to the high-level training of future graduates from FIC-UDC and ESEI-UVigo thru activities that familiarize students with the needs and possibilities of using ICT in businesses. It will also facilitate their integration into the workforce by highlighting the competencies, knowledge, and skills demanded by the Galician business sector.
